What a ZIP archive actually does
A ZIP archive packages one or more files into a single container. Depending on how the archive is created, entries can be compressed or simply stored together. Packaging is useful even when the files are already compressed formats such as JPG, MP4 or PDF.
A single archive is easier to upload, download, email or move through a project workflow than dozens of separate files.
Compression is not always the main benefit
Text, CSV and many raw data files can shrink substantially inside a compressed archive. JPEG images, MP4 video and modern office documents are already compressed internally, so additional ZIP compression may save little space.
The organizational benefit remains: filenames stay grouped inside one download.
Use clear filenames before packaging
Rename ambiguous files before creating the archive. Names such as final-2-new.jpg become difficult to understand later. Descriptive names make the archive useful without opening every item.

Privacy matters with online ZIP tools
