PDF is designed for stable presentation
PDF is a strong choice when layout consistency matters. Fonts, page geometry, images and positioning can be preserved more predictably across devices than in an editable word-processing document.
That stability also makes PDF less convenient when the recipient needs to substantially edit the content.
DOCX is designed for editing
DOCX is a structured office-document format used by Microsoft Word and many compatible editors. It supports styles, headings, tables, images and other rich document features.
A DOCX can reflow when fonts or application behavior differ, so it is usually better for collaboration than for final fixed-layout delivery.
TXT is simple and durable
Plain text has almost no layout information. That limitation is also its strength: TXT is easy to inspect, search, version, parse and open on nearly every computing platform.
Use TXT when the content matters more than typography, page breaks or embedded media.
Choose the format based on the next action
If the recipient needs to print or view a final version, PDF is often the practical choice. If they need to revise the content, DOCX is more suitable. If another program needs clean textual data, TXT can be the simplest option.
Conversions between formats can lose layout or structure. Keep the original file whenever the document is important.
Use lightweight converters for simple jobs
